Engaging with AI4K12 Learning Standards through an Open-Access Unit on Self-Driving Cars
Sunday June 8, 2025 TBA
In this workshop you will gain hands-on experience with how to teach the AI4K12 Artificial Intelligence learning standards through an open access middle-school curriculum that focuses on both Self Driving Cars and Make Code programming with micro bits. This unit is centered around phenomenon-based instruction where students explore the question of how self-driving cars can make safe and ethical decisions to get us where we want to go. Come to this session to learn about how to incorporate AI standards, computer science topics, and a compelling social issue into science and STEM classrooms. During the workshop you will participate in hands-on unit activities as well as review this freely available curriculum. We will discuss assessment strategies, alignment to learning standards, and transferability of these topics even if you are not going to use this exact unit.

Using AI for engagement, support and balance
Sunday June 8, 2025 TBA
In this session teachers will learn 3 key ways to engage their students, support their students, and have better balance as a teacher utilizing AI tools.  We will look at how to use AI for research by first doing a practice task as a group, then I will provided an example of how I use it with students and finally teachers will have a chance to dive through additional resources and examples to come up with ways they can incorporate it into their own classrooms.  Next we will look at ways that AI can support differentiation in the classroom.  First we will do a practice case study, then I will provide an example of how I use it in the classroom and then teachers will have the chance to dive deeper into resources and examples to determine their own personal usage of the tools.  Finally we will look at how to incorporate choice into the classroom using AI.  We will experience a SchoolAI space, then I will showcase how I use it with students and from the teacher perspective.  And then teachers will have time to dive deeper into additional tools and examples and determine how they want to use it in their own classrooms.
